The Gunflint Trail Green Up Weekend

Gunflint Green Up Weekend

May 7-9

Boundary Waters Canoe Area Guided Canoe Trip

Historic trappers left cut marks on trees along the Gunflint Trail.

We invite you to join us as we gather for a community conservation project. Each spring, since the 2007 Ham Lake wildfire, the Gunflint Trail community partners with the US Forest Service in replanting some of the lands that were burned in that fire. Around 400 people gather for this event and contribute a few hours on Saturday to become stewards of the land and give a helping hand at getting a new forest started growing again.

Includes: 2 nights of bunk house accommodations, breakfast Saturday and Sunday mornings, hot showers. You commit to joining us from 9 a.m. to mid afternoon on Saturday for the tree planting.

$59.00 per adult: $39.00 per child (6-12), plus taxes

** Making your reservation is a two step process — first, you make a reservation with us, and secondly, you make your reservation for the event. You can accomplish the second step by going online to www.gunflintgreenup.com and making your reservation, which includes Friday and Saturday dinners, Saturday lunch, and the coordination of the entire event.

Some Gunflint Trail facts...

Moose found along the Gunflint Trail

There is an abundance of wildlife found along the Gunflint Trail.

  • The Gunflint Trail was originally a footpath first used by the Ojibwe who made their home in this area for thousands of years — it’s now a 57-mile paved road that is maintained year round.

  • Mountain biking is available on the 200km of cross-country trails, snowmobile trails, abandoned logging roads and railroad beds. Biking isn’t allowed in the BWCA — all vehicles with wheels are banned.

  • The Gunflint Trail begins at Grand Marais and ends at Gull Lake, passing through two landscape zones offering a diverse range of wildlife.
