Canoe trip tips...

Canoe with packs on a canoe country vacation

There are more than 1,200 canoe routes in the Boundary Waters area.

  • Be ready to get wet, especially your feet. Be sure to have extra shoes and socks when you return to your campsite. It’s a good idea to dress in layers so you’ll be prepared for changes in temperature.

  • If you take snacks along on your canoe trip, make sure they are in a watertight containers and are fastened to the canoe.

  • Don’t overload the canoe — an overloaded or awkwardly packed canoe can easily capsize.
