The 2013 season is off and running. The water levels are at a normal level this year which makes it easier to dock at the
portage landings. We have been seeing more moose this spring and there are lots of bald eagles nesting up, with chicks
soon to appear. The fishing is getting off to a good start for walleye, smallmouth bass, lake trout and northern pike. We
have had some wonderful displays of northern lights this spring, for those of our guests who can stay up late enough to see
these beautiful displays across the northern skies.
Permits are still available for most of the entry points of the wilderness, but if you are planning a canoe trip in late July
or the first half of August, it is best to get that part of the planning done fairly soon (and also while we still have some
equipment available).
Here at Gunflint we have close to 50 different routes to use through the wilderness, which we match with your expertise,
interests, and the length of your itinerary. One of the nice features of a canoeing in the Gunflint area is that most of our
portages are fairly short, and most of the starting or ending points are
within a few minutes of our base. You do not have
to depend on a tow boat to get you down a busy portal lake, and we can get you into the wilderness quickly.
Last year we constructed 9 new canoer cabins. They have built in beds- one double and three twins, a refrigerator, microwave,
overhead fan, electric heat, and a nice screened in porch with a built in table and benches. Outside there is a picnic table and a
charcoal BBQ unit, and they are about 100' from the bathrooms. They are great option for a FAMILY VACATION.

Towering Pines Canopy Tour

This is a perfect compliment to your canoeing. This 2+ hour nature adventure takes you through the canopy of our boreal forest on zip lines
between 300 year old white pine trees overlooking the BWCA. Each adventure is led by two sky guides and is limited to 9 guests. We are
open 7 days a week, from mid morning until late afternoon. Guests are welcome from 10 year old children to 240# adults.
The cost is $79.00 per person.
