Gunflint Northwoods Outfitters
Back in 1927 our family came north to explore the newly opening Gunflint Trail area of northern Minnesota's vast wilderness area. They fell in love with the Minnesota Canadian canoe country, bought Gunflint Lodge and Outfitting company, and opened their doors in 1929. The family started with 3 log cabins that our native American neighbors built, a small lodge/supply store, and a handful of canvas covered Old Town canoes.
Fast forward to 2015 – Our outfitting services now include a modern fleet of canoes (Kevlar and Royalex), lightweight tents, comfortable packs, an exclusive line of foods made by Camp Chow, accommodations for pre and post trip nights, a full service dining room, and an expert staff with over 100 years of combined outfitting experience for BWCA canoe trips.
Our commitment to you is personal service, from your first phone call to our waving you good by at the end of your canoe trip. We will personally plan your BWCA route with you, pack your custom selected foods, reserve all the necessary BWCA wilderness permits, and transport you to your entry point for your canoeing adventure. Most of the entry points along the Gunflint Trail are within a 15 to 30 minutes of us. We invite you to browse through more detailed pages of our internet site so you can get a good understanding of how we operate and how we can build a custom planned Boundary Waters or Quetico canoe trip for you.
We are now entering our 86th year of operation, still managed by the Kerfoot family. We have probably outfitted more people for canoe trips into the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness than any other outfitting company in northern Minnesota.
Your hosts: Bruce and Sue Kerfoot and Sheryl Hindermann, our Gen Manager
